TLS 1.3 Encryption

All data between Beluga and the remote API travels through TLS 1.3. Man-in-the-middle attacks are impossible — all connections are mutually authenticated.

Beluga uses rotating per-session API tokens. Each session generates a unique token that expires after use — no persistent credentials stored in transit.

📦 How to Install Beluga+

Download Beluga_v1.0.0_Setup.exe from the Download section.
Run the installer — no admin rights required for a standard install.
Follow the setup wizard (Next → Next → Install → Finish).
Beluga launches and appears in your system tray (🐋).
First-run indexing takes 2–10 min depending on drive size.

⚙ How to Configure Beluga+

Right-click the tray icon and select Settings.

Index Paths: Choose drives/folders to include or exclude.
API Endpoint: Pre-configured for Seaferno cloud; custom endpoints supported.
Auto-start: Launch Beluga with Windows automatically.
Sync Interval: How often the index syncs (default: 15 min).

🌐 How the API Works+

Beluga communicates over REST API using HTTPS (TLS 1.3).

Index Sync: The agent sends JSON metadata to POST /api/v1/index/sync on schedule.

Search: Queries go to GET /api/v1/search?q=query and results stream via chunked transfer in real time.

Auth: A short-lived Bearer token (generated from your device ID) is included in each request header and rotated every session.

Press Ctrl + Space anywhere or click the tray icon to open the search bar.

Type any part of a filename — results appear instantly.
Prefix with C: or D: to filter by drive.
Append .pdf, .docx, .mp4 to filter by type.
Enter opens the file; Ctrl+Enter reveals it in Explorer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Beluga really free?+

Yes — 100% free, forever. No premium tiers, no subscriptions, no paywalls. Seaferno believes powerful tools should be accessible to everyone.

Does Beluga read my file contents?+

No. Only metadata is indexed: name, path, size, modification date. File contents are never read, transmitted, or stored anywhere outside your machine.

Why does Beluga require internet?+

Beluga offloads search to a remote server for near-instant results regardless of local hardware. Internet is required for index sync and search retrieval.

Will it slow down my PC?+

No. The background agent uses only 10–15 MB RAM and under 1% CPU at idle. Index syncing is throttled to avoid impacting active-use performance.

What Windows versions are supported?+

Windows 10 (64-bit, v1903+) and Windows 11. No additional runtime required — it's a fully native Windows application.

How large can my file index be?+

Millions of files with no degradation. In testing, 5 million+ file systems maintained sub-200ms search times. There is no hard index size limit.
